Diabetic Apple Pie Recipe

Dealing with diabetes may leave you craving sugar more often than not, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t a wide range of healthy alternatives to your favorite snacks and desserts out there! From fruit and dark chocolate to homemade recipes, there is no shortage of options when it comes to enjoying a sweet snack, even when diabetes has to be taken into consideration!

One of the world’s favorite treats is simple apple pie, that sugary mess of fruit and pastry that goes so well with a bowl of ice cream. Thankfully, even that baked snack can be fitted around a strict diet; here is a very delicious diabetic apple pie recipe:

Diabetic Apple Pie Ingredients

Entirely uncomplicated, this diabetic apple pie recipe won’t require much; in fact, you may very well have the ingredients that you need at home right now!

  1. 6 cups of sliced apples, preferably of a tart variety for taste
  2. 1 tablespoon of cornstarch
  3. 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
  4. 2 tablespoons of butter
  5. 1/3 cup of thawed apple juice concentrate
  6. 1 nine inch pastry

Diabetic Apple Pie Recipe

Once you’ve got your apples sliced and your other ingredients ready to go, you can get started on baking your pie. If all goes according to plan, you’ll be able to taste it in only an hour or so!

First, preheat your oven to 425 degrees, then:

1. In a small bowl, mix your apple juice concentrate, cinnamon, and cornstarch until they are well-blended.

2. Place your apple slices in a separate bowl, then pour the first mixture over them as evenly as possible. Mix well in order to achieve a consistent blend.

3. Use your butter to grease your nine inch pie baking tin, then place your pastry into it. When things are fitted in snugly, pour your apple mixture inside.

4. Cover the open pie with the remaining crust, sealing the edges as you go.

5. Place your freshly made pie into the preheated oven and let it bake for 15 minutes.

6. After the initial 15 minute baking time is done, reduce the oven heat to 350 degrees and allow the pie to bake for an additional 35 minutes.

7. Remove the pie, let it cool, and enjoy, knowing all the while that both your body and your taste buds are thanking you in unison!
