The Mediterranean (MED) Diet Improves Type 2 Diabetics Condition

Mediterranean diest effect on diabetes type 2

Great news for type 2 diabetics: now they can less depend on medications by sticking to proper diet! It has been proved by 4-year long testing that the Mediterranean diet (MED) improves the condition of a person suffering Type 2 diabetes and what’s more removes the need of drug intake.

A Mediterranean diet includes whole grains, vegetables and fruits, fish, poultry, and monounsaturated (“healthy”) fats, such as like Omega-3s and olive oil. The diet has proved to increase insulin sensitivity and reduce the risk of diabetes.

In the study, women on the diet were allowed 1,500 calories per day, and men were allowed 1,800 calories per day. The study proved that eating the Mediterranean way greatly delayed (and sometimes removed) the diabetics’ need for drugs.
